I am a trained Forest School practitioner; a lot of the work that I do, particularly with younger children is based in the outdoor environment. 'Forest school' is a concept originally developed in Denmark for early years education, it is a type of experiential outdoor education that aims to build children's self-esteem, confidence and independence. Using woods and forests as a stimulating learning environment children establish an awareness of ecological and conservation issues, they broaden their language and social skills and have the opportunity to develop freedom and independence through learning how to use tools, light fires and climb trees.
